This model of the brain stem was made for the purpose of exploring the use of 3D scanning for modelling.

A 3D scan was taken of a plastic model of the brain stem.
The scan was then brought into 3D-Coat to fill up holes that resulted from the scan and to retopologize for simpler geometry.
To add the detail back into the model, it had to be sculpted in Autodesk Mudbox 2014. First, the model had to be UV mapped in Autodesk Maya 2014 before bringing it into Autodesk Mudbox 2014.
In Autodesk Mudbox 2014, the model was then sculpted to add the groves and other details that were lost back into the model. A displacement map was then exported from Autodesk Mudbox 2014.
In Autodesk Maya 2014, the displacement map and shaders were added to the original brain stem model. A stand was modelled for the final touch.
